Welcome to our series of Tekniq Career stories!
In this chapter we get to know Katja Oinas, who works as a Project manager at Tekniq. Let’s hear her story!

Name, current role and project?
Katja Oinas has been working now for 8 months as a Project Manager in domestic sales at ABB Distributions Solutions. “I am responsible for ensuring that a medium-voltage switchgear is delivered on time and in accordance with the agreement, considering quality and safety issues. I work as a link between the customers and the factories. I have a lot of communication daily with both sides. I also take care of the after-sales.”
ABB is located in Katja’s hometown and work requires traveling only occasionally.
Educational background
Katja is a mechanical engineer, but she also has a degree in economics. Currently, she is developing herself as a hydrogen expert.
How did you start at Tekniq?
First, I applied for another open position at Tekniq but the project was cancelled after all. My information remained in Tekniq’s competency pool and after a while HR contacted me and introduced me to this new opportunity. I got excited right away, and luckily so did the customer. After the customer ‘s interview it took only a week when we got shared understanding about the terms of employment and here we are!
What is the best thing about your job?
The best thing about working at ABB is the work community and the good team spirit. Everything works well and the cooperation is excellent. The work is very international – one day, I was in contact with a factory in Mexico and Norway, participated in a meeting with a factory in Italy, I was on the phone with people in Finland, and chatting with people in the Czech Republic.
I have been welcomed very warmly, even though I am an external employee. You don’t really see the difference between internal and external employees. I’m invited to the same meetings, training, and other events with everybody else. We are having a shared breakfast on the first Monday of every month, and there are always fruits available at the office. We are having monthly one-on-one discussions in ABB to check up on the ongoing situations. When I started, the introduction took a couple of weeks here at ABB and now I’m able to develop myself more. I’m also happy with Tekniq. Everything went smoothly and I’ve always gotten support when needed.
What qualities are required to succeed in this role?
To succeed in this role, you need to have good concentration, excellent cooperation and communication skills. You also need to be able to work well under pressure and language skills of course are required. English and Finnish are a must.
How would you describe Tekniq as an employer?
Everything works out smoothly. I had a very warm welcome feeling since the first day I started – thank you!
